Sudbury Lady Wolves teams are wasting little time jumping right into the glut of early season tournament action, with a pair of local entries just returning from a very solid weekend at the Harvest Classic in Oakville.
Coach Clay Burton and the Bantam "B" Lady Wolves were completely on top of their game, defensively speaking, by the time the playoff round arrived, recording five straight victories en route to capturing the tournament banner in their division.
The Sudbury girls gained their footing with a 3-1 win over the Mount Brydges Cougars Friday afternoon, as Julia Hayes buried a pair of goals and Abigail Lanteigne added an empty-net marker to firmly secure the victory.
The locals improved to 2-0 that same evening, doubling the Oakville Hornets (Girard) 4-2, with Jacinta Ashkakogan netting the two-goal effort, joined on the scoresheet by Hayes and Kirstin Fahey.
Matched, in game three, against a Burlington Barracudas squad that had only relinquished a single goal against, the Lady Wolves eked out a 2-1 win. Hayes registered her fourth and fifth goals of the weekend, while Sudbury netminder Jessica Ouimet would see her shutout spoiled with only 19 seconds left to play.
That goal would be the last that would find its way past either Ouimet or her puckstopping partner, Jess Trottier. The northern reps blanked the Oakville Hornets (Reed) crew 3-0 Saturday night, as Fahey, Lanteigne and Katelyn Lee handled the offense, advancing the Bantam "B" girls to the championship final.
Another lockdown effort ensued, as Sudbury trimmed the Oakville Hornets (Girard) 2-0, courtesy of goals from Abby Soehner and Fahey. Rounding out the roster of the championship team were Cecilia Anderson, Raeleigh Chartier, Sydney Burton, Kamryn Hammell, Carley Burton, Emma Dyer, Katelyn Guzzo, Allie Miller and Gabriella Moggy.
