Sox Bash, A's Crash in New Classic Battle of Tier 1 Teams
It has been a one sided affair between the Burlington White Sox and the Milton A's thus far in the 2026 season. Despite that though and despite what the lopsided 19-5 score suggests, these two teams seem much closer then the stats would imply.
The true differentiator in this blowout was #5 Alex Gaudet, who single-handedly broke the game wide open with an incredible 4-hit, 6-RBI performance, reaching base in all 5 plate appearances.
The reliable veteran pitcher Doug Chrysler earned the win for Burlington. His 5th of the 2026 season! The starter spread 8 hits and 5 runs (2 earned) over 5 innings, striking out 2 and walking 2.
Ryan McCrea took the loss for the Milton As. The hurler struggled with a tight and moving zone and deserved much better than the stats would show. McCrea went 2 and 1/3 innings, giving up 15 runs (14 earned) on 11 hits, striking out 3 and walking 5.
Drew Gilmore was first out of the bullpen for the A's. The righty went 2/3s of an inning, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, striking out 2 and walking 2.
OBA standout Walker McKelvey played mop up for Milton in relief. The unconventional righty used different arm angles to toss 2 innings of 4 hit baseball, surrendering 1 run, striking out 2 and walking 1. Walker will be a force in future match ups for certain!
Burlington accumulated 19 hits in the game. Cossitt Jr, Stamp, Moncur, J-Lay, Cossitt Sr, and Kretz each collected multiple hits for the White Sox. The Sox also had patience at the plate, tallying 8 walks for the game. Chrysler, J-Lay, and Hodgson led the team with 2 free passes each.
Milton tallied 8 hits over the 5 innings. GHBL veteran Sean Agnew and young up-and-comer Drew Gilmore each collected 2 hits for Milton. Former perfect game prospect and WCBL star Brandyn Agnew tallied a knock in the contest. Finn Malcolm also clocked in with a key hit for the A's. Former AAA catcher Jacob Mallett led the As with 2 RBIs, going 1-for-3 on the day.
Really the A's should have had even more damage then what was recorded. In the early innings some hard contact was directed right at Sox fielders. Milton had 4 lineouts in the game. Zach Stefnitz was the biggest victim offensively in the game. The former Elite player came up empty on multiple HHBs.
Contributions were certainly missed from collegiate standout Matt McKelvey as well as OBA star Brendan Tink. Arguably 2 of the stronger rostered players for the A's!
Next up for the Burlington White Sox is a Thursday night affair at Millcroft Park. The 3rd contest of the season against the ultra competitive Dundas Chiefs! 8:30pm start.
