Sox Settle Duelling Banjos Battle with Walk Off Win

It came down to the wire on Wednesday night at Millcroft Park. The much improved Dodgers came to Burlington with revenge on their minds. Revenge for their 2025 semi final exit from the GHBL Tier 1 playoffs at the hands of the eventual champions, the Burlington White Sox.

The plot for vengence started pre-game as the Dodgers initiated a battle of music. A conflict of sound! Some might say a contest of duelling banjos! The Sox engaged in the usual symphony of sound. Uplifting and pleasant audio for all to enjoy. The Dodgers would have none of it! They tried to counter the pleasure party with abrupt and vulger noise that offended all in ear shot of the cacophonous!

But the Dodgers forgot who they were playing against. The Sox were unphased. The Dodgers took a 4-1 lead in the game. The Sox were unphased. Champions are built on intestinal fortitude. This is in the DNA of each and every man that makes up the Sox roster. Winning is the by-product. There was never any doubt. Sox win 5-4.

The now 4 time champions (in a row) grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 5-4, over the Milton Dodgers. The game was tied at 4 in the bottom of the 7th when Sean Kretz drew a walk on a 3-2 count, scoring the winning run!

The Sox were the first to get on the board in the 1st when Jack Moncur singled, scoring one run. Milton took the lead in the top of the 3rd inning after Brandon Jones doubled to left field. The Sox then kicked the ball around twice with each error scoring 1 run. Milton then countered and committed an error, which helped Burlington tie the game at 4 in the bottom of the 5th.

Sean Kretz earned the win for Burlington. The lefty starting pitcher gave up 9 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) over 7 innings, striking out 5 and walking 1 in the complete game win.

Jakob Siracusa took the loss for the Dodgers. The pitcher went 1 inning, surrendering 1 run on 0 hits, striking out 3 and walking 4.

Rookie Adrian Cookson started on the bump for Milton. The young pitcher allowed 6 hits and 3 runs over 4 innings, striking out 5 and walking 3.

Kretz helped his own cause as the number 9 hitter for the Burlington White Sox, led the way with 2 runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Cossitt SR, Moncur, J-Lay, Hodgson, Graham, and Kretz each collected 1 hit for Burlington. The Sox had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 9 walks for the difference in the game. Better Windisch and Hodgson led the team with 2 walks each. Lay and Hodgson each stole multiple bases for Burlington. The Sox stole an astounding 6 bases in the game.

The Milton Dodgers tallied 9 hits in the game. Ry Barsattie, Nemanya Nikitovic, and Brandon Jones each collected 2 hits for Milton. Jones led the Dodgers with the lone run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.

Next up for the Burlington White Sox is a game on Sunday at Berine Arbor Stadium against their long standing rival, the Hamilton Pirates.
